Cool Lemon Jazz is an experienced Pop-Jazz Band fitting anything from small intimate venues to concert halls.

Val and Cynthia enjoy entertaining audiences with quality music, they desire to touch the heart of their listeners with hope and encouragement.

Band Members

Cool Lemon Jazz features the exquisite award-winning voice of Cynthia Lemen performing classic/contemporary/Latin jazz as well as pop dance and powerful show-stopping ballads. The five horn section exudes quality and energy that engages and energizes audiences of all ages.

Cynthia Lemen Cynthia Lemen

With a background in musical theater, Cynthia has been described as "having the emotional intensity of a young Judy Garland, with a voice like well-aged brandy." She has toured extensively in the continental states, parts of Europe and the South Pacific islands.

Val Lemen Val Lemen

Val is an accomplished arranger and keyboard artist with a strong background in pop/jazz. He is skilled at taking cover songs and interpreting them in a new and fresh way. The band love playing his stuff!

Mike Curtiss Mike Curtiss

Mike is a great all around drummer, Playing everything from Orchestra to Bands. And, he's a wonderful guy, too. We like him!

Roland Wallace Roland Wallace

Roland performs as a professional free-lance electric bassist in the Cool Lemon Jazz Band . Also, as a double bassist in the Midland Community Orchestra, Midland Symphony Orchestra and in many other musical venues. He has received many awards including the "Musician of the Year” by the Midland Symphony Orchestra and the "Samaritan Recognition Award" by the Fresh Aire Consulting Center for his music mentoring efforts with youth.

Dave Selley Dave Selley

Dave started playing a rented, dented cornet in 5th grade band, and was hooked - especially after he heard Louis Armstrong. He started getting gigs in high school, and continued through college and during his 30 year career as a chemist. Now retired, Dave enjoys playing freelance, and with more than a dozen different ensembles on everything from Dixieland to Baroque - up front in a horn band, in the wings at a musical, or just playing his part in a Band or Orchestra. (He has better horns now though!)

Larry Carbary Larry Carbary

Larry Carbary has played Jazz Saxophone since his college days in the late 1970’s. He plays the tenor and soprano sax in the band and truly enjoys every minute. The smoky richness of his tenor playing is a pleasure to listen to.

Cool Lemon Jazz is able to flex with the needs of each venue. We are available as a three piece, as a piano/vocal duo, as a four or five piece sax and/or trumpet player, or we can also bring along our fabulous five piece horn section for a rich Big Band sound! Inquire for pricing.

Assegid Mersha Assegid Mersha

Assegid has been blowing a mean trombone for 30 years. Assegid studied trombone with Dr Billie Howell.

Brenda Selley Brenda Selley

Brenda is our alto sax II and flute player. She started on keys at age eight and quickly discovered that once you learn to play an instrument...you want to play them all!!! She is currently learning her 12th instrument and loves playing with CLJ!!

Patrick Heider Patrick Heider

Patick has been holding down the CLJ 1st Alto chair and doing a great job soloing. Also, Patrick has been playing the saxophone for over 20 years. He currently is in many different jazz ensembles and community concert bands. He currently covers various saxophone parts for the Blast from the Past big band and Midland Concert Band.
